Sometimes you’re in the mood to read a great story full of action and adventure, (good humor and some steamy times would be a plus), but you know you don’t have enough time for a full-
length novel. “Along Came a Spider” by Delilah Devlin is the novella you’re looking for. Spider loves his career as a Navy SEAL. But sometimes even tough guys need a break. A long
weekend getaway for some rest, relaxation, and fishing ends up being anything but that. He ends up coming across a couple of armed men in the woods, tracking what turns out to be a female
camper. Jessie is not a helpless woman at all, but she’s not equipped to fight off heavily armed, well-equipped bad guys. She’s hiding out in the woods, planning to wait out her scheduled
wedding. Although Jesse had called off the engagement, the terrible things she’d learned about her ex-fiance have him refusing to take “No” for an answer. With Spider as a welcome but
unexpected ally, the two of them have to figure out how to handle the volatile situation – and the wild attraction they feel for one another. This story is filled with all kinds of nonstop action. It pulled me and immediately, and held my complete attention right to the very end. The characters are interesting and likable, and there are several good secondary characters. Apparently, this story was first published in the Men in Uniform anthology. I didn’t read it there, but I’m glad I found it now.
