An Unexpected Chance

An Unexpected Chance
by Melanie Moreland

My review:

“An Unexpected Chance” is the sixth book in the Insta-Spark Collection by Melanie Moreland. It’s a second chance, single dad romance that will melt your heart, make you smile, and make you cry, all at the same time.

It would be easy to say too much about the story itself because I enjoyed it so much! Simon is the only parent his daughter Mia has ever known. His despicable ex-wife had no interest in either of them and took off as she could after their baby was born; she only wanted a hefty divorce settlement. The wretched woman hurt Simon deeply and made him determined to never make that kind of mistake again. Amy is a kind and wonderful woman, whose self-confidence was shattered by a cruel ex-boyfriend who always made her feel like she wasn’t ‘enough’.  Simon and Amy have met a couple of times through mutual friends, and when they each become brave enough to look a little deeper, that’s when the heart magic happens.

I’ve seen many books described as heartwarming – but this one truly is! Simon and Amy are terrific, multidimensional characters. Eight-year-old Mia is an excellent, integral part of the story. The dialogue and banter were great, and there were plenty of lighthearted moments along the way. (I’ll never think about the game Simon Says in quite the same way again!) There are interesting secondary characters, and a couple of them develop in unexpected and awesome ways. This story truly made my heart happy.
