Tension

Tension
by Anna Brooks

My review:

“Tension” is part of the ‘Guarding Her’ series by Anna Brooks. Although it’s the 12th book in the series, each is a standalone story, so you don’t need to have read any of the others in order to understand and enjoy this one.

Tally has extraordinary computer skills that make her a valued member of the security firm at which she works, but her dream is to be a field agent. When she gets a shot at that dream, it’s not in a way in which she’d ever imagined. NFL quarterback Tyler Tate is dealing with some serious issues, and when it all gets even more serious, he ends up in the position of needing a fake relationship that the press and his fans will believe in. This is a romance novel, so I’m not giving away the plot when I tell you that the fake relationship between Tally and Tate becomes more than either of them expects. Throw in a malicious ex-wife, false rumors, football drama, and a lot of twists and turns, and you’ve got a story that will keep you turning the pages.

I liked both lead characters and thought they each had wonderful depth to them. They also shared believable chemistry and good dialogue, Tally has a cat named Theodora and Tate has a little dog named Eleanor. Does that pair of names ring a bell to you? If so, I guess you’re remembering correctly, and it’s part of the light-hearted moments that perfectly balance the serious parts of the story. There are good secondary characters, including the villains. This story was entertaining all the way through to the satisfying conclusion.
