Under His Direction
by Lexy Parker
My review:
“Under His Direction” is the second book in the ‘K – 9 Protection’ series by Lexy Parker. This second chance at love story features a cop who always follows the rules, an art gallery owner who always follows her heart, and the art theft that unexpectedly brings them together more than a decade after they last saw one another. You do not need to have read the first book in this series in order to enjoy this one.
Everyone knows Jerome as a no-nonsense, everything must be done ‘by the book’ police officer. I don’t intend to spoil the story for you, but as his backstory is revealed, you get to learn intense, emotional things about his life. Hope has never forgotten her high school sweetheart. Finding out that not only is he back where they grew up, but he is the officer assigned to the art theft case that is destroying her life – it’s overwhelming, to say the least. The chemistry between them feels powerful and authentic
I enjoyed this story. It was well-written, and some of the dialogue was particularly entertaining. Part of the theft was not too complicated to figure out, but part of it was surprising. It was sweet (and a little sad) to see the lead characters rediscover themselves together and think about the years they had lost. I liked how this story ended for them because Jerome and Hope are great together! Jerome’s canine partner is a wonderful secondary character. Several good human secondary characters are also featured in the story, and I’m looking forward to seeing who will be in the next book of this fun series.
