Rescued by the Cowboy

My review:
We first met Ross Wynton and his family briefly in “High Stakes Cowboy”, the story of his youngest brother Noah, which was a part of the “Wild About Cowboys” collection. It was a fun story and definitely set the stage for more to come. When I saw that Ross’ book was available I have to confess I couldn’t wait to read it … and it was even better than I could’ve hoped.
Ross Wynton is a calm, cool and capable man with formidable skills and great instincts. As the leader of WEST Protection, he is all about the family ranch and the business. He doesn’t see himself starting a family of his own because he doesn’t have time or interest in cultivating a relationship. When the daughter of old family friends suddenly reaches out to him because she’s in serious danger, he starts to reassess his opinions about things like that. Pippa Hamlin is a brilliant scientist who has made genetic discoveries that have the potential to change the treatment of diseases around the world. She had a crush on Ross when she was young, but she hasn’t seen him since she was just 15. When she realizes her life is in danger, he’s the first person she calls and she heads for his family ranch. They both quickly discover a mutual attraction in the midst of the turmoil descending on her life.
This story was fast-paced and intense. Ross is a dynamic and alpha guy, but he’s got tremendous respect for Pippa’s intelligence and her career. Even though he doesn’t consider himself the type of man who deals with feelings, he’s very self-aware when those thoughts begin to change. Pippa is not just a science nerd … she’s educated herself over the years about top self-defense techniques, and she’s no “helpless woman.” Yet she’s also willing to recognize when she’s in over her head. The secondary characters are excellent and included surprises from other series by the author, which is always a cool thing. I read this book so quickly because I couldn’t put it down … then I was sorry when it was over because it was so good! When you read it you’ll see what I mean by that. The story builds to a nail biting crescendo and ultimately to a great conclusion. I can’t wait for the next one in the series!
