Best Friends Don’t Kiss
by Max Monroe
My review:
I fluffing loved this book! Dynamic author duo Max Monroe has given us a delicious, excruciatingly slow burn, best friends to lovers, fake boyfriend/girlfriend rom-com that is literally out-of-this-world fantastic. It is the love story of Luke and Ava, who have spent 15 years telling themselves that they are just ‘best friends.’ They meet as freshman on their first day at college, in a scene that is brilliantly funny. As time goes by, they are never simultaneously not dating somebody else … When he is single, she is not, and the same goes the other way around. So, both of them become very good at pretending the connection between them is no more than friendship. They actually become a threesome – Luke, Ava, and Denial.
There is a lot going on in this book, but it all works together seamlessly. There are scenes in college, Ava’s 15-year high school reunion, holidays at her Christmas-obsessed family home, the wedding of her sister, his career as a professional commercial pilot, his goal of being an astronaut, her crisis search for a ‘boyfriend’ to accompany her to the wedding and the reunion … so much, and it’s all so Great! Oh, and the billionaires – Thatch, Kline, Wes, Harrison and the rest, and their respective leading ladies. Luke works for the company that provides pilots for private planes. He is the favorite of Thatch and crew, so of course they end up all up in his business. The crossover is awesome and has made me want to go back and read those wonderful stories again.
Luke and Ava separately are interesting and compelling characters. Together, they are irresistible. And the epilogue, well, it was Everything. Trust me about this, you will enjoy this book. I hope somehow, somewhere, we will see more of Luke and Ava!
